The Train of 1000 to Auschwitz-Birkenau; May 2015
From 1 August 2014 till 30 November 2015 the Institute for Veterans and Victims of War, FIR and the Auschwitz Foundation - Remembrance of Auschwitz organize an educational project about the Holocaust and remembrance. The 5-day trip from Brussels to Auschwitz, with 1000 youngsters and a visit to the concentration and extermination camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau, is the highlight. For this trip a special train has been organized: the Train of 1000.
The Train of 1000 unites 1000 European youngsters coming from some 10 countries: Auschwitz is a shared past. The many victims, who were sent to Auschwitz, came from several European countries. During this journey of remembrance youngsters from several European countries are confronted with the reality of one of the greatest tragedies in history.
The Train of 1000 is jointly organized by the Auschwitz Foundation - Remembrance of Auschwitz, the Belgian National Institute for Veterans and Victims of War and FIR - International Federation of Resistance Fighters on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the camps and the victory over Nazism.
